Control Systems Engineer – Frequency converters, Level 2
Position purpose
The Control Systems Engineer, reports to the Engineering Manager. This position works under a low level of supervision with a high level of independent work. This position focuses on the architecture, design, and stability of advanced control systems for high-power, grid-connected converters. The Control Systems Engineer own control concepts from early system definition through validation and field deployment, working at the intersection of power electronics, system engineering, and high-performance energy conversion solutions.
Essential Functions
- Support the development of multi-loop control systems for converter and inverter applications, including current, voltage, and power control loops.
- Participate in the selection and implementation of control methods for company products.
- Assist in control system modeling and stability analysis using MATLAB/Simulink.
- Support the development and tuning of PLL, grid-following, and related synchronization algorithms.
- Participate in the implementation of grid code requirements such as LVRT/HVRT and reactive power control.
- Support digital controller implementation considering sampling and discretization effects.
- Develop simulation models and support model-based design activities.
- Perform SIL and HIL validation activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Support prototype commissioning, laboratory testing, and debugging activities.
- Analyze system performance and propose improvements.
- Collaborate closely with hardware, software, and system engineering teams.

- Support the development and maintenance of technical documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and technical discussions.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering processes and tools.
- Support the development of testing procedures and validation methodologies.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Good understanding of power electronics and converter/inverter systems.
- Understanding of classical control theory and feedback control systems.
- Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink modeling and simulation tools.
- Knowledge of PI/PID controller design and tuning techniques.
- Understanding of digital control concepts, including sampling and discretization.
- Familiarity with grid-connected inverter operation and synchronization methods.
- Basic understanding of modulation techniques such as PWM and SVM.
- Ability to analyze test results and troubleshoot control-related issues.
- Familiarity with laboratory testing equipment and measurement techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Education or Formal Training
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering, or a related field required.
Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in control systems engineering, power electronics, drives, renewable energy systems, UPS systems, or a related field.
- Experience with MATLAB/Simulink and control system development.
- Experience with laboratory validation and testing of power electronic or industrial control systems.
- Familiarity with converter or inverter applications is considered an advantage.
